"It is the function of creative people to perceive relations
between thoughts, or things, or forms of expressions
that seem utterly different, and to be able to Connect
the seemingly Unconnected".

SICU SSG, CSR & CRM
As one of
the central aims and objectives of SICU SSG is to generate ideas
for, create and develop social mobilizitation projects to better
the world, I'm happy to get an opportunity to introduce you the
"NAIADE - Safe Water Project" by Mini Puri, Synergy
International (SICU SSG, New Delhi).
CSR is a part of our every day
life, even that we don't notice it. When you visit the gasoline
station and choose products with a good reputation; when someone
put money into a company with an exemplary record; or when you
invest in training of your employees for future purposes . This
is good business sense! CSR is what the future of business is
all about.
There
are three kinds of responsibility: economic, environmental and
social. Corporate social responsibility is an integral part. It
is about integrating the issues of the workplace, human rights,
the community and the marketplace into core business strategies.
It has been
estimated that companies spend about 1,2 - 2,5 % in "Corporate
Social Responsibilty Funds", in order to execute an yearly
investment in the best possible CSR project of national or even
international importance, to show good corporate citizenship.
By using this as a
starting point, it can be very interesting to start charting for
the interest fields and needs of single corporations, in order
to generate new ideas, create and develop, and/or to search for
suitable projects to be offered to your clients in any part of
the world.
As CSR is quite
closely related to sponsorship; according to the "Sponsorship
barometer 2006" published by the Finnish Advertisers Association
today the 17th of April,
sponsors have got the best results
in sponsoring Environmental- and Social subjects. 56% of the
respondents told that the management of corporate reputation is
the most important reason for an investment in sponsorship,
37% wanted to catch up with interest groups. About at the same
level was to support sales (36%). Other objectives were the
development of a products or services image and conspicuousness
(28%), and every tenth respondent mentioned internal marketing
as a central objective.
To become familiar
with what Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Social- and
Cause Related Marketing (CRM) is all about, and to get an
opportunity to discuss about these themes, open the following

Safe Water, Save Live
We
(Nedap) designed and developed ‘Naiade’- Solar Powered Drinking
Water Purification System that is both technically sustainable
and economically viable. It provides safe drinking water to the
community of poor and unhealthy men, women and children living
without basic utilities like safe water, electricity and
sanitation facilities. Remember

Problems
-
A
large number of young children are in critical condition due
to diarrhea.
- Poor sanitation conditions
in rural villages.
According to the study of the
'World Health Organization (WHO)’ 80% of the diseases in the
rural part of the third world are caused due to consumption of
unsafe drinking water.
Over 600,000 children below the age of 5 years die in India
alone, every year from diarrhea diseases. Young men and women
remain unhealthy and thus less productive causing their
poverty to become worse.
Then in developing countries like India hundreds of thousands
of villages and remote habitats are not connected with the
national electric grid and may not get connected for next many
years due to various factors like topography of the area,
economic viability, availability of power in that sector etc.
etc.
Thus lack of power makes purification of water more difficult
and cumbersome. Boiling of water to make it safe is not
convenient and is environment unfriendly. Chemical treatment
of water is not easy and risky for the poor and uneducated
villagers.

Naiade - Safe
drinking water project
When, we
brought Naiade from the Netherlands into India, for providing
safe drinking water to the poor people located at remote places
without electricity, it attracted 'Customs Import Duties' 2 of
about 40%. Which was huge.
Nevertheless, we
started talking and educating people and organizations to help
us waive this import duty burden. We are happy to inform you
that it has been waived off now. So the beneficiaries shall pay
40% less to have Naiade installed at their villages. It has
encourages us and our associates a lot. This relief, shall help
us make Naiade more sustainable, with people's participation.
This
can also be seen as a pattern-setting model
to be utilized in any country!
Now, a TV channel company from Europe is visiting us to make a
documentory on our project.
Recognitions
Naiade received the prestigious 2004 European Award for
Environment. Naiade is registered with the UN and has been
tested by UNESCO-IHE & KIWA from Europe and ATIRA in India.
I shall very much appreciate to receive reader’s views,
comments, suggestions etc., how Naiade could be introduced in
areas of their interest to help fight poverty and empower the
poor people.
